ENERGY MEDICINE FOR YOUR HEALTH PART I
Many of my patients are very interested in the application of energy medicine to heal the human body as an alternative to drugs and ask me about the validity of their claims. Indeed, the concept of using “energy” as a healing modality is mostly thought of as something out of a Buck Rogers Sci-Fi movie, though using energy to heal disease has actually been around for over a century.
There are two basic types of energy medicine, Veritable – energy that can be quantified and scientifically observed, and Putative – energy that cannot be quantified or scientifically observed. Here in Part I, I’d like to share with you what “veritable energy medicine” is and what it can really do for your health.
Veritable Energy Medicine – Harnessing Physics for Health
The name “Energy Medicine” was first coined back in the 1980s when the Society for the Study of the Subtle Energies and Energy Medicine were founded. However, as I mentioned above, energy healing modalities have been in use since the early 1920’s – specifically in the form of a machine developed by a man named Royal Rife. Today, there are several similar machines that make use of the same type of energy medicine.
Veritable energy, as I noted earlier, employs types of energy that can be scientifically observed and/or quantified. These include using light, color, magnetic, sound, or heat.
Veritable energy medicine is based on the idea of using exact programmed frequencies to treat a disease by balancing the human biofield – that sphere of electromagnetic energy that surrounds each of us. Veritable energy medicine works on ‘oscillating’ energy, using four main parameters: Polarity, Amplitude, Waveform, and Frequency.
Let’s look at the typical ways in which veritable energy medicine is delivered:
Energy Frequency Delivery Devices: The theory behind using these specific energy machines is that each disease has its own healing energy frequency that it responds to. Applying the correct energy frequency is thought to balance the human biofield. The imbalance ceases to exist, thus, the disease ceases to exist. Balancing the human biofield is attempted through the use of physical machines that are programmed, frequency modulator/delivery devices – many of which incorporate several energy modalities at once like sound, electricity, magnetism. They are touted by their developers to cure every disease known to man. However, there has not been any real research into the use of these devices to quantifiably know how much benefit, if any, they have supplied in the treatment of a specific health condition. In addition, there have been negative outcome reports of people suffering from serious diseases, like cancer, who have used these treatments instead of traditional treatments.
My opinion: I would say research as much about the use of these machines as possible before using and use with caution.
Color Acupuncture/Color Therapy: Color acupuncture involves using an acupuncture “pen” that emits a specifically colored light according to the disease state being treated. The practice of using color light therapy with acupuncture was popularized recently by German naturopathic doctor, Peter Mandel. However, initial successful use of color light was done decades ago by Indian doctor, Dr. Dinshah Ghadiali.
In color acupuncture, the light is “injected” into the skin at traditional acupuncture points throughout the body. This therapy works on the theory that ailments begin as energetic imbalances that if caught in time can be prevented from materializing into disease in the tissues. The “energy” of the particular color is absorbed through the acupuncture point and distributed throughout the body. This modality is thought to work by improving intercellular communications which are based on light energy. Nobel Prize nominated researcher Fritz Popp found that all natural organisms emit faint color-coded “broadcasts” of light energy and also absorb the same and share this color/light information between cells.
NASA uses color light therapy to heal cuts of astronauts while they are in space and cue them to sleep. The U.S. Military also uses color light therapy to treat chronic pain conditions. Recently, color light therapy has been used successfully on people suffering with SAD, seasonal affective disorder, where light is delivered through their eyes.
My opinion: Acupuncture itself has also been used for centuries by the Chinese and has a very good track record in obtaining relief for many ailments. I think color acupuncture has a very promising future ahead of it in alternative healing ‘energy’ medicine and could be very useful in helping treat certain ailments.
Acoustic/Sound Medicine: Current medical practice is more and more making use of ‘acoustical’ medicine to heal via the use of sound waves by way of ultrasound. These can be focused and directed deep inside the body to treat such conditions as Parkinson’s, cancer, stroke, stop hemorrhages, deliver drugs to deep tissues. It can even disrupt antibiotic-resistant bacterial biofilms. Other forms of sound-type energy medicine involve using tuning forks, quartz crystal bowls, chanting, specific musical tones or the human voice in specific vibrations to create harmonic resonance within the body. It works on the principle that focused, patterned sound energy creates harmony and can benefit healing and random, chaotic sounds produce tension and anxiety and foster disease. The goal of sound therapy is to identify imbalances in the energy field and right them. Delivering sound energy is accomplished through low frequency waveforms in Bio-Resonance therapy which are thought to activate biologic processes such as heart rate, and breathing rate. It is also thought to activate biologic substances in our bodies such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids, etc.
My opinion: I like the idea of sound being used in medicine to help heal certain disease. I also feel that sound-based energy medicine could be very helpful in promoting relaxation, sleep, better mood, that can have positive effects on overall health.
Although I’m not keen on the use of energy machines as the sole method to heal disease, I do see real promise in color acupuncture and sound-based energy medicine. Be sure to read Part II of Energy Medicine for Your Health to learn about the many forms of Putative Energy.
Stay Well,
